Antique Jewelry Motifs

There are several eras of antique and vintage jewelry, including Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, and Art Deco, each with distinct styles that centered on popular themes of the times.

Georgian jewelry was usually small and light. Short necklaces flattered the low necklines of the era (c. 1760-1837). Motifs were often inspired by nature, featuring birds, flowers and leaf shapes, and colorful stones like garnets, coral and topaz were popular. If this is your favorite era, check out Sorrelli’s spectacular antique-inspired floral jewelry.

The Victorian era encompasses several stages. The Early Victorian (c. 1837-1850) era was also called the Romantic period, and featured flora and fauna-based designs, colorful gemstones, and sentimental pieces, such as lockets.

The Mid-Victorian era (c. 1860-1880), also known as the Grand period, featured heavy, dark stones, such as deep red garnets, onyx and amethyst, to reflect the somber mood that followed the death of Queen Victoria’s husband, Albert.

The Late Victorian era (c. 1885-1900) was also called the Aesthetic period. Diamonds and gemstones with feminine colors were fashionable at the time, as were pins and brooches.

If you’re looking for Victorian era-inspired pieces, consider Sorrelli’s romantic teardrop jewelry in a wide range of feminine colors and designs.

The Edwardian era (c. 1901-1915) featured elaborate decorative designs that incorporated diamonds, pearls, emeralds, rubies and other brilliant gemstones. Satisfy your craving for Edwardian-style jewelry with handcrafted artisan jewelry from Sorrelli’s Emerald collection.

Art Deco jewelry (c. 1920-1935) featured geometric shapes and bright color contrasts that were influenced by Egyptian, African and Japanese themes. Necklaces went from chokers to extremely long strands. Bracelets were also popular, and women wore several at once. Browse through Sorrelli’s stylish cuff bracelets for Deco-inspired pieces.
